Progress can be a difficult thing to measure when you don’t have an effective yardstick. When your goal is raw improvement, the signs of progress only tend to manifest when you start comparing over long periods of time. With my goal to improve at art specifically, it can be boiled down to a simple question of “Can I draw something today that I could not draw yesterday?” This can extend to all individual aspects of art, such as drawing a specific pose or rendering three-dimensional shapes with a certain level of proficiency, but question is effectively the same.
Since I’m diving back into the Draw A Box lessons, I’m exploring the limits of what I can do when I try drawing seriously and consciously. Part of my issue is that I’m concerned about getting locked into a comfortable method of drawing that I don’t find satisfying, which runs counter to my ability to draw consistently. I think working on my fundamentals separately from my comic work will help supplement my issue of drawing for so long without feeling like I’m accomplishing anything. I’m hoping things will only get more productive once I start diving back into digital art.
There’s a little more than a week left for me to finish episode 5 of Wakeup Call. I’m on-pace to finish; I just need to stick to my schedule of at least two panels per day. This will be the last episode for this year, and I’ll be spending December planning out my strategy for next year. My goal is to get twice as many episodes done next year, which I think will be possible if I can find someone to help me with the process.
Been playing some Baba is You on the side. Trying to keep my gaming time to a minimum so I can focus on my artwork, but I also don’t want to reach a point where I do too much artwork and break my daily chain. It helps that I divide my art time with story writing time since both are productive for working on Wakeup Call. It definitely feels good to balance the two instead of pouring all of my time into one or the other. That’s about all from me this week. Make the most!
