Cosmic Encounter - Blutooth Edition
Cosmic Encounter is my all-time favorite game, be it board, card, or video. Ever since I discovered it through the now-defunct Cosmic Encounter Online in 2007, it is a game that has captured my fascination. In my eyes, Cosmic casts a massive shadow on game theory itself, both in terms of innovation and gameplay.
The game has been around for over forty years, with five major incarnations, not counting spinoffs and unofficial variants. So many design philosophies have been applied to the game to see what works best. As a super fan of Cosmic myself, I cannot help but wish to try my hand at the matter. That is the purpose of this project, to apply my own understanding of game design and Cosmic rulings to make my own version of Cosmic: The Blutooth Edition.
This project will not be reconstructing the game from the ground up. The goal is to construct a form of Cosmic using a skeptic’s philosophy. That is, everything that currently exists in the game needs to be questioned before it is added to mine. I will employ my own terminology, game mechanics, rulings, and of course alien powers. Much of it may be similar to the current or previous incarnations of Cosmic, but I want to make sure none of it is added for the sake of tradition alone. At the same time, I also do not wish to change something just for the sake of being an iconoclast.
My Blutooth Edition of Cosmic is not authoritative or official in any regard. It is created to fit my own preferences, with the hopes that it will fit others’ as well. Feel free to pick and choose any bits and pieces you like to apply to your own Cosmic circle. Or better yet, let my ideas inspire you to come up with your own.
