Power of Reversal

Swaps Digits On Attack Pods

As a leader, after approach, you may use this power to declare a reversal. If a reversal is declared, swap the ones and tens digits on all revealed attack drivers this encounter to determine their might. For instance, a 01 becomes a 10 and a 05 becomes a 50.

Legacy: A reversal occurs every encounter.

Hailing from a world difficult to find on most star charts, the elusive Mirrors see themselves in all forms of life. Unable to comprehend why the Cosmos do not bend to their will, they now strive to make reality match all that is reflected in their eyes.

Optional

Wild Flare

As a leader, during combat, you may discharge this flare to make the value of your encounter pod match your opponent’s.

Super Flare

When using your power, you may discharge this flare to declare only one fleet to be affected by the reversal.

Modifications

  • Mirror’s legacy flips the ring into the mirror universe, altering the pod economy. The 09 pod becomes the most valuable by a considerable margin, with the common 08 pods becoming the second most valuable. The 40 pod becomes worthless, and negative pods become worse. Original Cosmic has no legacies.

Tips

  • Mirror’s power affects both sides equally (until it gets its super flare), so its primary advantage is through its ability to choose whether to do a reversal or not.
  • Similar to Tripler and Anti-Matter, Mirror has its own encounter pod economy. While 00 is still the weakest (positive) encounter pod, the strongest pod they can wield is a 09, which propels them to the unfathomable might of 90. For reference, for Virus to overcome such might (without Mirror’s assistance or the Virus super flare), it would need a 23 pod at max power. Mirror’s strongest pods are 06-09, so it can expect its opponents to play cards in that range if they think a reversal will be declared. Playing higher than these pods without a reversal can provide Mirror an easy win. It benefits Mirror to avoid being too predictable, as if the opponent knows what Mirror will do, Mirror’s only advantage is its ability to choose the situation that benefits its cache more.
  • When opposing Mirror, aliens are wagering whether Mirror will pull a reversal or not. If Mirror does pull a reversal with a 06-09, there is little the opponent can do unless they played a similar card, so that range of pods can be a safe bet. Such pods are best saved for opposing Mirror if obtained. Aliens can also attempt a hail mary by calling that Mirror will not reversal and playing a high attack. This can be incredibly dangerous without a zap handy, as Mirror’s power turns a powerful 30 or 40 into a harmless 03 or 04.

Development Notes

  • Mirror falls into the same sort of “swap” combat power as Loser, Calculator, Sorcerer, and Graviton. It stands out by having its own unique card economy, allowing it to interact with any of these other aliens in interesting ways. Mirror vs. Loser or Sorcerer turns the almighty 09s into a terrible choice. Depending on the timing, Calculator can have either a major effect or minor effect on Mirror’s power. Graviton can render Mirror’s power ineffectual.
