It’s finally time to unveil the first of my projects that I will be posting to this site. In the very near future, I will be uploading a section of my website dedicated to the tabletop game Cosmic Encounter. If you have never heard of Cosmic, that is precisely one of the reasons why I am devoting a section of my website to it. If you search the web, you will find that there are not many websites that have info on Cosmic. There is a wiki which has most of the info on the game, BoardGameGeek which has an active forum and many useful threads, and Jack Reda’s site with info on many fanmade game components. That’s about it.

I’d like to use my bar to help keep the Cosmic name alive, but that’s only one reason I wish to add a section on it to my site. The other reason is the reason that it is a “project” rather than a new section just called “Cosmic” or something. I’ve been studying Cosmic for many years now, trying to understand what about it is fun, what about it I like. We’ve had an Eon edition, a Mayfair edition, an Avalon High edition, an Online edition, and a Fantasy Flight edition. Now I’m ready to make my Blutooth edition, to take the parts that work and trim the parts that don’t in order to make my own iteration of the game. My own rules, my own terminology, my own aliens. In terms of intrigue, I imagine Cosmic fans would be interested to see what is the same and what is different. I know I can spend hours reading alien descriptions and thinking about how they play. I want to make an enjoyable database like that which people can use as a pseudo-reference to the actual game, as well as provide some helpful links for people looking to learn more.

My Projects page has been modified to add Cosmic as my first entry. The link isn’t ready quite yet. I plan to do one more pass on my writeups tomorrow and make it live then. I hope you all enjoy it. In the meantime, make the most!
