So here we are on the 19th of September. Quite a ways away from the beginning of the year and my new commitment to making progress every month. As I might have expected when working with me, my motivations at the start of the year are quite different than how they are nine months later. After spending all of this time working on it, I’ve decided to shelve my simulator and my second comic to focus more on Wakeup Call and this new game idea I got last week. As with most of the things I come up with, I have no clue how well it will perform, but here’s hoping it’s got legs. A part of me is concerned about falling into the endless spiral of creating new ideas that don’t pan out well enough and lead me to start more new ideas, resulting in nothing getting done. However, I have to keep in mind that not every project idea I come up with will pan out, and as long as I finish at least some of them, I think I’m still on the right track.
This week I started mapping out some of the background details of the setting for Wakeup Call, including making references for a bunch of background characters to populate the hospital. Character design is always a fun process, and it’s good to get practice at it since I’m so inexperienced. I also need to get better at backgrounds. I’ll likely look for another artist to help me on that front in the near future.
Less than 10 aliens to go for my Cosmic section. I think I’m starting to smooth out the vocabulary process. I’ve noticed some redundancy in the terms, so I’ve been slowly correcting my design page over time. Luckily nobody’s analyzing it too closely, so it’s not too big of a deal yet. I’ve decided once I hit 100 aliens that I’m going to look into indexing my site before doing more. I want to figure out how to make a search bar and organize the aliens alphabetically and by alert color. If nothing else, it will help me navigate through them more easily.
I’ve gotten a few new commission offers over the past few weeks, which has kept me a little busier than usual. I want to use them as a chance to improve what I can do on paper, as I’ve recently found that my vectoring skills can pretty effectively reproduce anything I can draw, enhancing it slightly if the lines are a bit crooked. I’ll get back to that now. Make the most!
